Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Bilaspur, Om Kant, confirmed that rescue operations are ongoing. “Ten deaths have been reported so far and rescue operations are continuing on a war footing,” he said. The incident occurred when falling debris struck the bus while it was navigating a hilly stretch during heavy rainfall.
Local administration, police, and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) promptly rushed to the site to carry out rescue operations. Heavy machinery has been deployed to clear debris, though challenging terrain and intermittent rainfall have slowed progress.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. “The state government stands firmly with the affected families in this hour of distress and will provide every possible assistance,” he said. Sukhu prayed for the departed souls and directed officials to ensure timely medical care for the injured.
The Chief Minister, who is monitoring the situation from Shimla, has instructed the district administration to expedite relief and rescue efforts and provide regular updates on progress.
This tragic incident underscores the dangers posed by landslides during heavy rains in hilly regions and the need for robust preventive and safety measures.
