New Delhi [India], May 29 (ANI): Around 160 Bangladeshi nationals are being deported from Delhi to Bangladesh through Hindon airbase on Thursday, sources said. The deportees will first be flown to Tripura on a special aircraft, from where they will be transported by road to the Bangladesh border for repatriation.
Following the Pahalgam terror attack, Delhi Police identified nearly 470 Bangladeshi nationals living illegally in the city and has been deporting them via this route — first by air to Tripura, then by road across the Bangladesh border.
Among the 160 deportees, most had infiltrated into India illegally, while many overstayed after their visas expired.
Earlier today, the Crime Branch of Delhi Police detained four illegal Bangladeshi nationals from the Narela area of Delhi. The operation was conducted by the Inter-State Cell (ISC), Crime Branch, Chanakyapuri, following over a month of surveillance and intelligence gathering to identify undocumented migrants living in vulnerable locations.
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, Harsh Indora, identified the detainees as Hafijul (19), Mominul (21), Shamim (22), and Inamul (38), allegedly from Rangpur district in Bangladesh. The arrests were based on multiple intelligence inputs indicating the presence of undocumented foreign nationals in the city.
The individuals had entered India illegally, bypassing immigration checks, and were residing without valid documents. Ground-level verification was conducted at makeshift settlements, roadside dwellings, and known labor congregation points in Narela, where the four were found without legal documentation and admitted to illegal entry and stay.
None of the detainees could produce valid identity proof of Indian or Bangladeshi origin. According to preliminary investigations, all four entered India during childhood with their parents, who later returned to Bangladesh. Since then, they have been living illegally, moving across various cities including Bahadurgarh, Sonipat, Khurja, Mahendragarh, Ghaziabad, Behror, and finally Delhi, to avoid detection.
The detainees had been living secretly on roadsides and informal settlements for years and stated they have no relatives or legal ties in India. Their families, including parents and grandparents, continue to reside in Bangladesh.
The four individuals are currently held in a detention center and are being processed as per the law.
