Tel Aviv [Israel], June 24 (ANI/TPS): As a ceasefire between Israel and Iran took effect on Tuesday, Israeli authorities reported 28 deaths and over 3,000 injuries resulting from 12 days of Iranian missile and drone attacks.
Emergency medical services provider Magen David Adom confirmed that its technicians declared 28 fatalities and treated hundreds of injured civilians. According to Israel’s Health Ministry, a total of 3,238 people were hospitalized during the conflict, most with light injuries.
Iran launched an estimated 550 ballistic missiles and approximately 1,000 drones targeting Israel over the course of the hostilities. While Israel’s advanced air defense systems intercepted the vast majority of these projectiles, at least 31 ballistic missiles hit populated areas, and one drone reportedly struck a residential home.
Widespread property damage has also displaced more than 9,000 Israelis from their homes, officials said.
The conflict was sparked on June 13 when Israel launched preemptive airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites, citing intelligence assessments that Tehran had reached “a point of no return” in its nuclear weapons program. Israeli defense officials stated that Iran had developed the capability to rapidly enrich uranium and assemble nuclear weapons, with enough fissile material to produce up to 15 warheads.
Israeli intelligence also uncovered a covert Iranian program aimed at finalizing all components necessary for a functional nuclear device. Officials said the strikes were part of a broader strategic effort to counter Iran’s multi-pronged approach, which includes nuclear development, ballistic missile expansion, and the use of proxy forces, all geared toward undermining Israeli security.
Despite Tuesday’s ceasefire, the toll of the 12-day war underscores the high cost of the conflict and the volatility of regional tensions. (ANI/TPS)
