
Pune (Maharashtra), June 15 (ANI): At least 38 people have been rescued following the collapse of a bridge over the Indrayani River near Indori village in Pune district, according to Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinoy Kumar Chaubey. The injured, including those in serious condition, have been transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The tragic incident occurred on Sunday and has prompted a large-scale rescue operation. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life and extended condolences to the bereaved families.
“It was very sad to hear the news of the accident in which a bridge over the Indrayani River collapsed at Indori near Talegaon in Pune district. According to preliminary information, two people have died in this incident. I pay my heartfelt tributes to them. We share the grief of their families,” CM Fadnavis said in a post on X.
The Chief Minister confirmed that 32 people sustained injuries, including six in critical condition. He added that rescue efforts were underway for those feared swept away in the river.
“I am in constant touch with the Divisional Commissioner, District Collector, Superintendent of Police, and the concerned Tehsildar regarding this incident,” Fadnavis added. “As some people have been swept away, a search is being carried out for them. NDRF has been deployed at the spot. Relief work has been given immediate impetus.”
The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) is leading the search and rescue operations at the site. All emergency services and related agencies have been placed on high alert, and continuous efforts are being made to trace and rescue any remaining victims.
Those injured are receiving treatment in local hospitals, and authorities are coordinating efforts to ensure that all survivors receive the necessary care.
The cause of the bridge collapse is under investigation. Further updates are expected as rescue operations continue. (ANI)
