
Dhaka [Bangladesh], October 14 (ANI): Nine people were killed in a fire at a garment factory and chemical warehouse in Rupnagar, Mirpur, in Dhaka. Several others sustained burn injuries in the incident. Fire Service Director Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Tajul Islam Chowdhury said that nine bodies were recovered from the second floor of the burning garment factory. “12 units of the fire service are working to control the fire,” he told reporters, without providing further details.
The Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence reported that the fire broke out at Kasmik Pharma, Shialbari, Rupnagar, Mirpur, near UTII University. The incident was first reported at 11:40 AM, and fire units arrived on the scene at 11:56 AM. Firefighting, search, and rescue operations were underway, involving 12 units.
The Fire Service advised the public to stay cautious around chemical facilities and shared safety tips to prevent similar accidents. Seven firefighting units were actively engaged in controlling the blaze. Further details about the cause of the fire and the identities of the victims were not immediately available, according to The Dhaka Tribune.
