WASHINGTON, February 17 — U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday again rejected claims of any association with Jeffrey Epstein, saying he has been “exonerated” and has “nothing to hide.”
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said, “I have nothing to hide. I’ve been exonerated. I have nothing to do with Jeffrey Epstein. They went in hoping that they’d find it and found just the opposite. I’ve been totally exonerated. In fact, Jeffrey Epstein was fighting that I don’t get elected with some author.”
Earlier this month, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said President Trump had been consistent in stating that he expelled Epstein from his Mar-a-Lago club because he considered him a “creep.”
During a press briefing, Leavitt said the release of Epstein-related files demonstrates the administration’s commitment to transparency.
“The president has always remained consistent in that he kicked Jeffrey Epstein out of his club at Mar-a-Lago because Jeffrey Epstein was a creep,” she said. “Unlike many other people who are named in these files, President Trump cut off his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein and was honest and transparent about that for years. The release of more than three million documents related to Jeffrey Epstein and his heinous crimes shows the level of transparency that this president and administration have committed to in bringing these files to light.”
Trump’s name has surfaced repeatedly in connection with the broader controversy surrounding Epstein. However, the president has denied any wrongdoing and has said he distanced himself from Epstein before the scandal became public.
Trump has previously stated that he cut ties with Epstein in the early 2000s after Epstein allegedly recruited one of his employees from the Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida.
Epstein, a convicted sex offender, died in jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges. He had connections with numerous high-profile figures across politics, business, and entertainment.
