WASHINGTON, Feb. 25 — U.S. President Donald Trump said during his State of the Union address that the Russia-Ukraine war would not have occurred if he had been president at the time, reiterating his stance on the conflict.
“Working hard to end the war between Russia and Ukraine, a war which would never have happened if I had been president,” Trump said.
Trump also claimed that his administration has made significant progress on immigration and crime reduction since returning to office. He said that in the past nine months, no illegal immigrants had entered the United States and emphasized that legal immigration would continue to be permitted.
“In the past nine months, zero illegal aliens have been admitted to the United States. We will always allow people to come in legally, people who will love our country and will work hard to maintain it,” he said.
Trump added that fentanyl trafficking across U.S. borders has declined significantly and that the country has experienced a historic drop in murder rates.
“The flow of deadly fentanyl across our border is down by a record 56 percent in one year. Last year, the murder rate saw its single largest decline in recorded history — the lowest number in over 125 years,” he said.
He described his administration’s first year as transformative.
“Tonight, after just one year, I can say with dignity and pride that we have achieved a transformation like no one has ever seen before, and a turnaround for the ages. We will never go back to where we were just a short time ago,” Trump said.
In his address, Trump also announced a new agreement with major technology companies aimed at managing the growing energy demands of artificial intelligence infrastructure while protecting consumers from higher electricity costs.
He said the agreement would allow technology firms to build dedicated power plants to support AI data centers, ensuring that increased electricity demand does not raise utility bills for households and small businesses.
“Many Americans are concerned that energy demand from AI data centers could unfairly drive up their electric utility bills. Tonight, I’m pleased to announce that I have negotiated the new ratepayer protection pledge,” Trump said.
He added that technology companies would be required to generate their own electricity to meet the needs of expanding AI infrastructure.
“We’re telling the major tech companies that they have the obligation to provide for their own power needs so that no one’s prices will go up,” Trump said.
Trump described the plan as an unprecedented strategy designed to address the limitations of the existing power grid while supporting the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence capabilities in the United States.
