Kathmandu [Nepal], March 3 (ANI): Nepal is preparing for general elections scheduled for March 5, in what is being viewed as a significant political milestone following the Gen Z protests in September last year.
As a close neighbor, India considers the election equally important and is extending necessary support to Nepal. For the upcoming polls, India has provided a large number of vehicles to Nepal’s Election Commission to facilitate logistical arrangements.
Nepal Election Commission Information Officer Suman Ghimire told ANI, “India is our important neighbour, and we continue to receive assistance from India.”
He added, “Our friendly nation, India, has provided a large number of vehicles for our elections. These vehicles were given by the Government of India to the Government of Nepal, and from there they were made available to us for election-related work. India is an important neighbour for us. Our country is connected to India on three sides. We have consistently received support from India.”
Ghimire further said that India is also cooperating from a security perspective. “In view of the elections, India is also cooperating from a security point of view. For security reasons, some border areas adjoining India have been sealed,” he stated.
Speaking about assistance from other neighbouring countries, Ghimire said that nations such as China, South Korea, and Japan are also extending support through the Government of Nepal.
Providing details of the polling process, he said, “Voting will take place on March 5 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. A total of 18,903,689 eligible voters will participate in this election. This time, 1.1 million new voters have been added. We have also provided training to new voters at the ward level regarding the voting process.”
He further informed that 10,967 polling locations have been set up, comprising 23,112 polling centers across the country. Arrangements have been made at polling centers to ensure voter convenience, he added. (ANI)
