MANAMA, Bahrain, March 9 (ANI): Bahrain’s state news agency reported that four individuals injured in an incident in the Sitra area, south of the capital Manama, remain in critical condition, including children who require surgery. The details regarding the victims’ medical status were confirmed following the incident, according to reports by Al Jazeera.
The reports, citing the country’s Ministry of Health, highlighted the severity of injuries sustained in the affected region. Authorities further specified that the injuries were caused by an Iranian drone attack on the Sitra area.
Expanding on the scope of the strike, Bahrain’s Ministry of Interior on Sunday claimed that Iran targeted civilian facilities, including a water desalination plant, during the drone attack. In a post on X, the ministry stated that “Iranian aggression indiscriminately attacked civilian targets and caused material damage to a water desalination plant following a drone attack.”
The escalation comes as Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian clarified that his previous remarks regarding regional military operations had been “misinterpreted by the enemy that seeks to sow division with neighbours,” according to state media reports cited by The Times of Israel.
The clarification follows a period of diplomatic confusion after earlier comments suggested a potential suspension of military actions against Gulf nations, even as regional strikes continued. Addressing these perceptions, Pezeshkian emphasized the importance of maintaining fraternal ties with neighboring countries. “It has repeatedly been said we are brothers and must have good relations with neighbours,” he said.
However, Pezeshkian maintained that Tehran’s actions were driven by defensive necessity, stating that Iran is “forced to retaliate to attacks,” while clarifying that this does not imply a dispute with neighboring countries or a desire to “upset their people.”
The Iranian president had earlier appeared to adopt a conciliatory tone. In a televised address on Saturday, he said the leadership council had decided not to attack neighboring countries unless provoked. “I apologize to the neighbouring countries. We have no intention of invading other countries,” Pezeshkian said, adding that there would be no missile launches unless attacks against Iran originated from those specific nations.
Despite the conciliatory message toward neighboring states, Pezeshkian struck a defiant tone against Western pressure, ruling out the possibility of surrender as the U.S.-Israel campaign intensifies. “They will take their dreams of us surrendering unconditionally to the grave,” he asserted.
The statement was a direct rebuttal to U.S. President Donald Trump, who recently wrote on Truth Social that there would be “no deal with Iran except unconditional surrender.” Trump stated that negotiations would only consider an agreement once the current leadership completely yields and is replaced by “great & acceptable leader(s).”
In the post, Trump also expressed an ambition to rebuild the country under the slogan “MAKE IRAN GREAT AGAIN (MIGA!).” The remarks follow reports suggesting his interest in being personally involved in selecting Iran’s next Supreme Leader after the death of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a joint U.S.-Israel strike.
