TEL AVIV, March 15 (ANI): The Israeli military announced that its forces have launched “a wide-scale wave of strikes targeting infrastructure of the Iranian terror regime in western Iran,” marking a significant escalation in the regional conflict.
According to Al Jazeera, the offensive comes amid a sharp rise in medical emergencies in Israel, with the country’s Health Ministry reporting that 108 people were admitted to hospitals over the past 24 hours.
The ministry said it does not currently provide a breakdown of the causes of injuries. However, The Times of Israel reported that many injuries may have occurred as people rushed to reach shelters during air raid sirens rather than from direct strikes.
The latest figures add to a growing toll since the conflict began on February 28. The ministry said on X that 3,195 people have been admitted to hospitals since the start of the war, with 81 individuals currently hospitalized.
Amid the continuing hostilities, Israeli air defenses intercepted two separate waves of missiles aimed at southern regions within the past hour.
Reports from Al Jazeera, citing Ynet News, said the interceptions prevented the projectiles from reaching populated areas. The Home Front Command confirmed there were no casualties from those incidents.
At the same time, sirens were activated across central Israel after a projectile was launched from Lebanon. The missile was also intercepted by Israeli defense systems.
The alert followed earlier reports of loud explosions in central Israel after a missile strike from Iran, according to Al Jazeera, citing Channel 12.
Debris was seen falling in central parts of the country, where the ambulance service treated four people who were injured while rushing to shelters.
Although the Home Front Command initially said the incident in the central region had ended, authorities later detected additional rocket and missile launches toward southern Israel, prompting urgent instructions for residents to take shelter.
The escalation follows a recent Israeli Air Force operation in Tehran that killed two senior Iranian intelligence officials.
In a post on X, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated, “ELIMINATED: Abdollah Jalali-Nasab and Amir Shariat, senior intelligence officials of the ‘Khatam al-Anbiya’ Emergency Command.”
The military described the two officials as key figures in Iran’s intelligence community and close to the country’s leadership.
According to The Jerusalem Post, the precision strike targeted the officials after they had been appointed to replace Saleh Asadi, who was killed earlier during Operation Roaring Lion.
The Khatam al-Anbiya command plays a key role in gathering and analyzing intelligence that shapes Iran’s military decision-making against Israel.
Israeli military spokesperson Brigadier General Effie Defrin said hundreds of Israeli Air Force aircraft have struck more than 150 Iranian government targets as part of the broader campaign.
As the multi-front conflict intensifies, the IDF said joint operations with the United States will continue.
Speaking to ANI, IDF spokesperson Lt. Ben Cohen said Israel is prepared for a prolonged mission to eliminate what it describes as an “existential threat.”
“I’m not going to give any specific timeframe, but I’ll tell you that we’re going to keep going until we know that we’ve taken away that existential threat,” Cohen said.
He added that while Israel generally seeks to avoid prolonged wars, the scale of the current threat means operations against Iran’s military infrastructure may take time. (ANI)
