Texas [US], March 24 (ANI): A massive explosion occurred at the Valero Refinery on Monday (local time) in Port Arthur, Texas, prompting authorities to issue an emergency shelter-in-place alert.
According to the official website of Port Arthur, the alert was issued to ensure the safety of residents in the surrounding areas.
Following the explosion, city authorities issued a shelter-in-place alert for Sabine Pass, Pleasure Island, areas south of Highway 73, and regions from Stilwell Boulevard west.
Citing local media, Reuters reported that the fire occurred at the 380,000-barrel-per-day refinery late Monday.
It cited CBS affiliate KFDM, which reported that Sheriff Zena Stephens said there were no reported injuries and that the explosion was likely caused by an industrial heater. (ANI)
