Washington, DC [US], April 7 (ANI): US President Donald Trump has reaffirmed his administration’s readiness to launch large-scale military strikes against Iran if his Tuesday night ultimatum remains unmet, saying the countdown to potential military action is ongoing and that “8 p.m. is happening.”
Speaking in a phone interview with Fox News anchor Bret Baier, Trump signaled that preparations for military action are continuing as scheduled. Baier shared details of the conversation, highlighting the president’s firm stance on the deadline.
“I just got off the phone with the president and he called, and I said, ‘Listen, if you were to put odds on it, what are the odds that this is going to end up being a negotiated deal?’ He said he wasn’t going to put odds on it. But he said, ‘8 p.m. is happening.’ That’s what he said,” Baier recounted.
Trump also indicated that the scale of any potential military operation would be unprecedented. According to Baier, the president warned that “if we get to that point, there is going to be an attack like they have not seen.”
While maintaining a hardline stance, Trump left open a narrow window for diplomacy. Baier noted that the plans could change if Tehran offers a meaningful concession.
“He said if negotiations move forward today and there is something concrete, that could change, but at this hour—he didn’t want to put odds on it—he said it is moving forward with the plans that we have,” Baier added.
Describing the situation as highly consequential, Baier said the administration’s current trajectory represents “a huge deal,” as global attention focuses on whether a last-minute diplomatic breakthrough can be reached before the 8 p.m. deadline.
Earlier, Trump issued a series of posts on Truth Social warning of potential large-scale destruction while also suggesting a possible shift in Iran’s political landscape.
“A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will,” Trump wrote, reflecting the gravity of the escalating military standoff amid reports of US strikes on Kharg Island and other key Iranian infrastructure.
Despite the warning, Trump suggested that a new political reality could emerge in Tehran.
“Now that we have complete and total regime change, where different, smarter, and less radicalized minds prevail, maybe something revolutionary wonderful can happen—who knows?” he wrote.
Framing the moment as historically significant, Trump added, “We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the world. Forty-seven years of extortion, corruption, and death will finally end.”
He concluded with a message directed at the Iranian people: “God bless the great people of Iran!”
The remarks underscore Trump’s ultimatum for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. He has warned that failure to comply would result in a coordinated bombing campaign targeting Iran’s electric generating plants and bridges.
The president previously stated that the objective would be to leave these facilities “burning, exploding, and never to be used again” within a four-hour window.
During a White House press briefing, Trump said, “The entire country could be taken out in one night, and that night might be tomorrow night.”
Emphasizing the urgency, Trump described the current moment as a “critical period,” noting that Washington had provided Tehran additional time to reach an agreement.
“They have till tomorrow. Now we will see what happens… A lot of people are affected by this. We are giving them until tomorrow, 8 o’clock Eastern Time. After that, they are going to have no bridges. They are going to have no power plants. Stone Age,” Trump said, reiterating that the ultimatum represents a final opportunity for Tehran to avoid widespread infrastructure damage. (ANI)
