Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], April 12 (ANI): A sensational century from Sanju Samson and a four-wicket haul from Jamie Overton powered Chennai Super Kings (CSK) to a 23-run victory over Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Chepauk Stadium on Saturday. CSK registered their first win of the season, ending a six-match losing streak at home.
Put in to bat, CSK posted 212/2 in 20 overs, driven by Samson’s unbeaten 115 off 56 balls, including 15 fours and four sixes, and Ayush Mhatre’s 59 off 36 balls with three fours and four sixes.
In response, Delhi Capitals reached 189 all out in 20 overs despite a fighting 60 off 30 balls from Tristan Stubbs and 41 off 24 balls from Pathum Nissanka. Jamie Overton (4/18) and Anshul Kamboj (3/35) led CSK’s bowling attack with crucial breakthroughs at regular intervals.
Chasing 213, DC began aggressively with Nissanka and KL Rahul putting on a quick 62-run stand in the powerplay. Rahul scored 18 off 10 balls before being dismissed by Khaleel Ahmed, while Nissanka fell soon after for 41 off 24 balls.
Wickets then fell in quick succession as Axar Patel was dismissed cheaply, followed by Sameer Rizvi. DC slipped to 76/4 inside eight overs. Tristan Stubbs kept the chase alive with a fluent half-century, but Overton dismantled the middle and lower order with key strikes, finishing with four wickets.
Stubbs’ dismissal for 60 effectively ended DC’s hopes as CSK maintained control to seal a comfortable win.
Earlier, CSK’s innings was anchored by Sanju Samson, who reached his century in 52 balls, bringing up his fourth IPL hundred. Ayush Mhatre provided strong support with a fluent half-century before retiring after 59.
CSK reached 212/2 in 20 overs, with Shivam Dube contributing a quick unbeaten 20 at the end of the innings.
For Delhi Capitals, Axar Patel picked up one wicket. CSK’s win takes them off the bottom of the table, while DC remain in the top half despite the defeat. (ANI)
