Dubai, April 12 (ANI): External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar underscored the strength of the India-UAE strategic partnership, noting that dialogue between the two countries remains highly transparent despite a complex regional environment.
Jaishankar is currently in Abu Dhabi as part of the final leg of his four-day, two-nation visit to Mauritius and the UAE from April 9 to 12. After attending the 9th Indian Ocean Conference in Mauritius, he arrived in the UAE on April 11.
Speaking about his high-level engagements, Jaishankar said he met UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and conveyed a message from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Discussions focused on the strategic relationship and key areas such as energy and trade.
“The UAE is a major partner for us, so we discussed that,” Jaishankar said, highlighting the importance of economic and energy cooperation between the two nations.
Beyond economic ties, the talks also addressed broader geopolitical challenges affecting the Gulf region. Jaishankar noted that the region has witnessed intense conflict and emphasized India’s strong interest in its stability and security.
“I’m very pleased to have an opportunity to come here, sit down directly, express our interests, and also share the feedback of the Indian community,” he said.
The welfare of the Indian diaspora was a key focus during the discussions, particularly in light of recent regional tensions. Jaishankar conveyed appreciation for the care extended to the Indian community in the UAE during a difficult period.
He said he met with community representatives upon arrival and shared their experiences and sentiments with UAE leadership. According to Jaishankar, the community expressed appreciation for the support they received.
The minister also conveyed the Indian community’s gratitude to Dubai Crown Prince Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum during his meeting with UAE leaders.
Reflecting on the visit, Jaishankar highlighted his detailed discussions with UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, noting that both sides engaged in open dialogue on regional developments.
“There’s a lot of diplomacy going on these days, and the situation here is quite complex, so we discussed it openly,” he said, adding that the visit came at an opportune time to strengthen coordination between the two strategic partners. (ANI)
