NEW DELHI, India, April 16 (ANI): South Korean President Lee Jae Myung will pay a state visit to India from April 19 to 21 at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Ministry of External Affairs said.
Lee will be accompanied by First Lady Kim Hea Kyung and a high-level delegation comprising ministers, senior officials, and business leaders. This will be his first visit to India as president.
During the visit, Lee will hold discussions with Modi on strengthening bilateral cooperation across a wide range of sectors, including shipbuilding, trade, investment, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and other critical and emerging technologies.
The two leaders are also expected to focus on enhancing people-to-people ties and cultural exchanges, while exchanging views on regional and global issues of mutual interest. The Prime Minister will host a lunch in honor of the visiting dignitary.
As part of the official itinerary, Lee will meet President Droupadi Murmu, who will host a banquet in his honor. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar is also scheduled to call on the South Korean president during the visit.
India and the Republic of Korea share a multifaceted partnership rooted in longstanding civilizational ties and shared democratic values. The visit reflects the shared intent of both countries to strengthen existing areas of cooperation while expanding collaboration in emerging sectors.
The visit builds on recent diplomatic engagements, including a meeting between Modi and Lee on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Canada, in June 2025. During that meeting, both leaders agreed to enhance cooperation in key sectors such as commerce, investment, technology, and shipbuilding.
Further advancing this engagement, the sixth India–Republic of Korea Foreign Policy and Security Dialogue was held in Seoul in February this year. Co-chaired by Secretary (East) P. Kumaran and South Korea’s First Vice Foreign Minister Park Yoon-joo, the dialogue reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations and laid the groundwork for the upcoming state visit. (ANI)
