Istanbul, April 28 (ANI): Salim Dola, a close associate of mafia leader Dawood Ibrahim, has been deported to India following his arrest in Istanbul, officials said.
Dola was brought to Delhi’s Technical Airport after an operation carried out by Indian intelligence agencies in coordination with international counterparts. He is currently being interrogated by intelligence officials and is expected to be handed over to Mumbai Police for further questioning.
Earlier, CNN Türkiye reported that Dola, a wanted Indian drug trafficker subject to an Interpol Red Notice, was apprehended by Turkish authorities during a targeted raid in Istanbul on April 25.
The operation was conducted by the Narcotics Crimes Division of the Istanbul Police Department, which located Dola hiding in a residence in the Beylikduzu district following extensive technical and physical surveillance.
Authorities executed the raid after confirming his whereabouts, leading to his arrest and subsequent processing for deportation to India.
The action in Türkiye aligns with ongoing investigations in India. According to reports, suspects arrested in Mumbai’s Kurla area allegedly confessed to receiving instructions from Dola.
During related operations in India, law enforcement officials seized 126 kilograms and 141 grams of mephedrone, along with ₹2,522,000 in cash.
The Interpol Red Notice indicates that Dola faces multiple charges under India’s Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, which carries stringent penalties, including a minimum 10-year prison sentence for serious offenses and strict bail provisions in cases involving commercial quantities of narcotics.
Officials are expected to formally charge Dola under the NDPS Act and other applicable laws for his alleged role in drug trafficking operations. (ANI)
