Canberra (Australia), April 29 (ANI): Two people were killed after a plane crashed into a hangar while attempting to land at Parafield Airport in Adelaide, South Australia, triggering a massive fire, local media reported.
A pilot and a passenger were reportedly killed, while 11 others were taken to the hospital with injuries, according to 7News, a local Australian media outlet.
“The immediate area has been evacuated as emergency services deal with the incident,” police said in a statement.
Authorities said another person suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital, while two others sustained serious injuries, one had minor injuries, and six people experienced smoke inhalation.
“Shortly after takeoff, the plane tragically crashed into Hangar 54 at the airport,” Chief Inspector Andrew McCracken said, as cited by ABC News. “Upon collision, it caused significant injuries, fire, and damage.”
Thick black smoke from the hangar spread across the surrounding area, prompting the Metropolitan Fire Service to advise residents to remain indoors.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has launched an investigation into the crash, which involved a twin-engine Diamond DA42 aircraft. (ANI)
