Washington, DC [US], May 5 (ANI): In an escalating war of words alongside a tightening naval blockade, US President Donald Trump on Tuesday declared that Iran’s military infrastructure has been effectively dismantled, claiming the regime’s leadership has been “wiped out” despite its public defiance.
Speaking from the Oval Office during a proclamation signing, Trump portrayed Iran as a weakened adversary, asserting that Tehran’s private posture in negotiations contrasts sharply with its public rhetoric.
“Iran has no chance. They never did. They know it. They express it to me when I talk to them. Then they get on television and say how well they’re doing,” Trump said.
The president went on to outline what he described as a complete breakdown of Iranian military capabilities. “They have no Navy—totally wiped out. They have no Air Force—totally wiped out. They have no anti-aircraft capability, totally wiped out, no radar. They have no leaders. The leaders are wiped out. The whole thing,” he said.
Trump also praised the strength of the US Navy, highlighting the effectiveness of the current naval blockade in turning back Iranian vessels. “We have an unbelievable navy. We set up a blockade… We’re the hottest country in the world,” he added.
Earlier in the day, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Dan Caine sharply criticized Iran, accusing it of weaponizing global supply chains as the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps exerts pressure on international commerce.
Speaking at a press conference alongside Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, Caine said Iran has repeatedly threatened and attacked commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz over the past seven weeks in an effort to disrupt global trade.
“By obstructing one of the world’s most critical maritime checkpoints—a vital transit route for approximately one-fifth of global oil consumption—Iran is weaponizing the global supply chain,” Caine said. “This action disregards established navigation rights and the Law of the Sea, and the regime led by the IRGC is effectively attempting to hold the entire global economy hostage.”
At the same briefing, Hegseth outlined the parameters of Project Freedom, describing it as a temporary but “locked and loaded” defensive operation aimed at ending Iranian interference in global shipping. (ANI)
