MOSCOW, May 19 (ANI): Russian President Vladimir Putin will attend the BRICS summit scheduled to be held in New Delhi in September, the Kremlin has confirmed.
The Russian Embassy in South Africa, citing Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov, said Putin will participate in the summit on September 12–13.
“President of Russia Vladimir Putin will attend the BRICS summit in New Delhi on September 12–13,” the embassy said in a post on X.
This will mark Putin’s second visit to India within a year. He last visited New Delhi in December 2025 for the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit.
Earlier this month, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov visited India and participated in the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, during which he also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Lavrov said discussions covered bilateral cooperation as well as regional and global issues, including the conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia.
He also said that Prime Minister Modi had reaffirmed plans to visit Russia later this year.
BRICS is a grouping of major emerging economies, including Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates.
The bloc serves as a platform for coordination on global political, economic and development issues.
India’s BRICS chairship theme for 2026 is “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability,” focusing on a people-centric approach to global governance.
