BEIJING, May 20 (ANI): Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday called for an immediate end to hostilities in the Gulf region during talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Beijing, according to China’s state-run Xinhua News Agency.
Xi said the situation in West Asia has reached a critical stage between war and peace and stressed that all military actions must stop immediately.
“The situation in the Gulf region in the Middle East is at a critical juncture between war and peace, and all hostilities must end immediately,” Xi said during the meeting.
He also called for stronger cooperation between China and Russia to help build what he described as a more just global governance system.
“Currently, amid the chaos in the international situation, aspirations toward peace still remain the expectation of our nations. As permanent members of the UN Security Council and important world powers, Russia and China must strive for cooperation at a higher level, building a just system of global governance,” Xi said.
Putin reaffirmed Moscow’s commitment as a reliable energy supplier to China and highlighted ongoing cooperation in transport, economic development, and high technology sectors.
“Amid the crisis in the Middle East, Russia still remains a reliable supplier of energy resources for China. We have major projects going on in transport, economy and high technology,” Putin said.
Putin’s visit to China comes days after US President Donald Trump visited Beijing.
According to reports from Russian state news agency TASS, Putin described Russia-China relations as having reached “a truly unprecedented level” ahead of his arrival in Beijing.
China’s Foreign Ministry said the two leaders are expected to hold extensive discussions on bilateral relations, economic cooperation, and major international and regional issues.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said the visit marks Putin’s 25th official trip to China and highlighted the close strategic relationship and personal rapport between the two leaders.
“The two sides will take this visit as an opportunity to continue promoting the development of China-Russia relations to a higher level, which will inject greater stability and positive energy into the world,” Guo said.
Since Xi took office in 2012, the two leaders have met numerous times and have repeatedly emphasized their strategic partnership and mutual trust. (ANI)
