Dhaka [Bangladesh], May 20 (ANI): Bangladesh Police on Wednesday handed over the body of Indian Assistant High Commission Protocol Officer Naren Dhar to the Indian High Commission after completion of the postmortem examination, police officials said.
The body of Dhar was discovered Tuesday inside the Indian Assistant High Commission complex in the port city of Chattogram. While the official cause of death has not yet been determined, local authorities said there is currently no indication of foul play.
Following the discovery, the Indian High Commission alerted local law enforcement authorities. Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) recovered the body and expedited the postmortem process to determine the circumstances surrounding the diplomat’s death.
“The postmortem of Naren Dhar has been completed, and we have handed over his body to the Indian High Commission,” Hasan Md Showkat Ali, Police Commissioner of the CMP, told ANI over the phone.
“The exact cause of his death will be known once we receive the postmortem report, but at first glance, it appears to be from natural causes,” he added.
The CMP said administrative and medical formalities were completed swiftly in accordance with diplomatic protocols.
The body is currently being kept in a frozen facility by the Indian High Commission as arrangements are finalized to repatriate Dhar’s remains to India.
“Naren Dhar was an Indian citizen,” CMP spokesperson Aminur Rashid said. “After the postmortem, we handed over his body to the Indian High Commission. They have kept the body in a frozen state and will return it to his family as soon as possible.”
Further statements from India’s Ministry of External Affairs regarding funeral arrangements and the final autopsy findings are expected in the coming days. (ANI)
