BARAMULLA, Jammu and Kashmir, May 24 (ANI) — In a major success against terrorism, Baramulla Police, along with security forces, busted a terrorist hideout and recovered a significant cache of explosives in the Nilsar Kandi area of Chandoosa in Baramulla district on Saturday.
According to an official release, the operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs generated by Jammu and Kashmir Police and carried out jointly with the 52 Rashtriya Rifles, CRPF 53 Battalion, and SSB 2 Battalion.
During the operation, security forces uncovered a concealed hideout and recovered a substantial quantity of war-like stores, including 14 Soviet-made OG-7V fragmentation rounds intended for rocket-propelled grenades (RPGs), found packed in plastic containers.
The forces also recovered nine PG-7P propellant charges and boosters stored inside green plastic tubes.
Officials said the recovery helped avert a potential threat and marked a significant achievement in ongoing anti-terror operations in North Kashmir.
The operation in the area continued for nearly six hours to ensure complete sanitization and eliminate any possible threat.
Subsequently, the recovered explosives were examined by the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) of Jammu and Kashmir Police and safely destroyed on-site in accordance with established safety protocols, the release added.
A case has been registered at Chandoosa Police Station under FIR No. 23/2026 under Sections 4 and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act and Section 7/25 of the Arms Act. Further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, a major anti-terror operation intensified in the Pir Panjal region on Sunday after security forces established contact with heavily armed terrorists hiding in the dense Ghambir Mughlan forest area of Rajouri district.
The encounter followed the second consecutive day of a large-scale intelligence-based cordon-and-search operation jointly conducted by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
According to the Indian Army’s White Knight Corps, security forces tracked down the suspects on Sunday morning after launching search operations in the area a day earlier.
“Today at around 11:30 a.m., contact was established with terrorists in the general area of Gambhir Mughlan, Rajouri, during an intelligence-based joint operation conducted along with the J&K Police and CRPF,” the White Knight Corps said in a post on X. (ANI)
