WASHINGTON, D.C., May 25 (ANI) — Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, is living in secrecy at an undisclosed location with limited access to the outside world, CBS News reported Sunday, citing US intelligence.
According to the report, the Iranian Supreme Leader can only be reached through a labyrinth of couriers, US officials familiar with the matter said. Iranian officials authorized to work with the Trump administration are reportedly struggling to communicate within their own government system, which officials say is a key reason negotiations have progressed slowly.
CBS reported that when the US sends proposed details, the difficulty in reaching the Supreme Leader results in lengthy delays before Washington receives a response, according to two officials.
The report added that even senior Iranian government officials are unaware of Khamenei’s whereabouts and have no direct way to contact him. Instead, messages are relayed through a network of couriers designed to conceal the Supreme Leader’s location.
One official said that much of the information received is already outdated by the time it arrives, resulting in significant delays in responses from the Supreme Leader.
Another official said American and Israeli intelligence gathered from within the Iranian government enabled the targeting and elimination of much of Iran’s senior leadership during the war.
Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, was reportedly injured in American and Israeli strikes during Operation Epic Fury and has since taken extreme precautions to avoid attacks similar to those that killed his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
Although he has not appeared live in public since before the war began, messages attributed to him continue to be regularly reported by Iranian media. (ANI)
