TEHRAN, Iran, May 31 — Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf on Sunday accused the United States of attempting to divide the Islamic Republic and create internal discord through economic pressure and media influence, describing Washington’s efforts to force Tehran into submission as a “false dream.”
Ghalibaf said the country had entered a “new phase of the war” and alleged that Iran’s adversaries were seeking to undermine national unity in an effort to compensate for what he described as military setbacks.
“In the new phase of the war, the enemy is seeking to create discord and destroy the country’s cohesion through economic pressure and media manipulation in order to compensate for its military defeat and force us to surrender; what a false dream,” Ghalibaf said, according to a statement carried by Iran’s state broadcaster, Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB).
In remarks that appeared to reference the United States and Israel, Ghalibaf said Iranians remain determined to resist what he described as forces seeking to weaken the country.
He outlined what he called four fronts in a “full-fledged struggle”: the military arena, public engagement, diplomacy, and service to the people.
“Today, the great and history-making nation of Iran knows that it is standing at a sensitive and historic moment,” Ghalibaf said. “For this reason, they are resisting the enemy so that future generations of Iranians can be proud of their fathers and mothers in the years to come.”
He said military, diplomatic, public, and service-related efforts must work together during the current period.
The remarks were delivered during the swearing-in ceremony of new members of Parliament’s presidium. The session, held virtually, included 187 lawmakers participating online and 14 attending in person. It marked the first session of the third year of Iran’s 12th Parliament.
Ghalibaf said Iran’s military achievements, particularly in missile development, had been made possible through public support and argued that diplomacy should convert those achievements into political and legal gains.
“What has been achieved in the military field and with our missiles has been with the support and backing of the people, and the job of diplomacy is to turn these victories into political and legal achievements,” he said.
He also emphasized that Iran would not approve any agreement with foreign powers unless it fully protects the interests of the Iranian people.
“As I have repeatedly stated, the soldiers of the battlefield of diplomacy have no trust in the words and promises of the enemy. What matters to us are concrete achievements. We will not approve any agreement until we are certain that the rights of the Iranian people have been secured,” Ghalibaf said. (ANI)
