TEHRAN, Iran, May 31 — Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Ghalibaf said Sunday that Iran will not approve any agreement with the United States aimed at resolving the crisis in West Asia until the rights and interests of the Iranian people are fully secured.
According to a statement issued by Iran’s state broadcaster, Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), Ghalibaf emphasized the need to convert military achievements into political and legal gains through diplomacy.
“What has been achieved in the military field and with our missiles has been with the support and backing of the people, and the job of diplomacy is to turn these victories into political and legal achievements, while the duty of public service is to solve the people’s problems through the support provided by these victories,” Ghalibaf said.
He added that Iran would judge any potential agreement based on tangible outcomes rather than promises.
“As I have repeatedly stated, the soldiers of the battlefield of diplomacy have no trust in the words and promises of the enemy. What matters to us are the concrete achievements we must obtain in return for fulfilling our commitments, and we will not approve any agreement until we are certain that the rights of the Iranian people have been secured,” he said.
Ghalibaf made the remarks during the swearing-in ceremony of new members of Parliament’s presidium, which was held virtually with 187 lawmakers participating online and 14 attending in person.
The parliament speaker also accused the United States of attempting to create divisions within Iran through economic pressure and media influence, describing such efforts as an attempt to compensate for what he characterized as military setbacks.
Addressing what he called a “new phase of the war,” Ghalibaf warned that Iran’s adversaries were seeking to undermine national unity and social cohesion.
“In the new phase of the war, the enemy is seeking to create discord and destroy the country’s cohesion through economic pressure and media manipulation in order to compensate for its military defeat and force us to surrender; what a false dream,” Ghalibaf said, according to the IRIB statement.
He further asserted that Iranians remain determined to resist external pressure and defend the country’s sovereignty and interests.
The remarks come amid ongoing diplomatic efforts and heightened regional tensions involving Iran, the United States, and Israel. (ANI)
