MOSCOW, June 2 (ANI) — The Russian government has announced a ban on the export of aviation fuel through Nov. 30 in an effort to protect domestic supplies amid declining refinery output and shifting conditions across the country’s energy sector.
In a statement issued Monday, the Kremlin said the temporary export restriction is intended to maintain stability in the domestic fuel market.
“The aim of this decision is to ensure stability in the domestic fuel market,” the government said.
The move follows reports that Moscow had been considering restrictions on exports of diesel and jet fuel after refinery operating rates fell to multi-year lows following recent drone and missile strikes on Russian energy facilities.
In recent months, Russia’s energy infrastructure, including oil refineries and pipeline networks, has come under increased attack from Ukraine.
The strikes have affected Russia’s fuel-processing capacity, prompting authorities to take measures to secure domestic fuel supplies, particularly as the country enters a period of higher seasonal demand.
Russia is one of the world’s leading exporters of refined petroleum products and traditionally ships significant volumes of diesel and aviation fuel to international markets.
The government clarified that the export ban will not affect fuel shipments conducted under existing intergovernmental agreements.
Russia, one of the world’s largest oil and natural gas producers, has previously imposed restrictions on automobile fuel exports as market pressures continue to mount during the ongoing conflict with Ukraine.
The announcement comes as Kyiv has intensified operations targeting Russian energy infrastructure in recent weeks while continuing to face daily missile and drone attacks. (ANI)
