MANAMA, Bahrain, June 10 (ANI) — Precautionary emergency protocols were activated across Bahrain after air raid sirens sounded for a second time within an hour, prompting authorities to renew public safety warnings amid escalating regional tensions.
In an official statement posted on X, Bahrain’s Interior Ministry urged residents, for the second time within the hour, to “remain calm and head to the nearest safe place.”
The renewed activation of emergency warning systems underscores the heightened state of alert in the Gulf nation following recent drone threats and projectile attacks targeting strategic assets in the region.
In a significant expansion of the ongoing conflict in West Asia, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched a drone attack against the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain and warned of a “more severe response” if American military operations against Iranian territory continue, according to Iran’s Tasnim News Agency.
Detailing the overnight operation, the Iranian outlet reported that “IRGC Navy forces launched a drone attack at 2:30 a.m. against the U.S. Fifth Fleet in Bahrain,” citing an official IRGC statement.
The statement further warned that if what it described as US “aggression” continues, Washington would face more severe consequences.
Providing details about the earlier US strikes on Iranian territory, the IRGC claimed that American forces targeted several locations in southern Iran.
“The warmongering U.S. regime attacked several points in Jask, Sirik and Qeshm early this morning under false pretexts, damaging a telecommunications mast in Sirik and destroying two water tanks in the city,” the IRGC said, according to Iranian media reports.
The group added that clashes were ongoing.
The retaliatory drone strike came hours after US Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed that US Air Force and Navy fighter jets had struck Iranian air defense installations, ground control stations, and surveillance radar sites near the Strait of Hormuz using precision-guided munitions.
CENTCOM described the operation as “a proportional response to recent attacks on U.S. forces and international commercial ships transiting regional waters” and said American forces “remain vigilant and postured to defend against unjustified Iranian aggression.”
The US strikes followed Iran’s downing of a US Army AH-64 Apache helicopter near the coast of Oman on Monday.
CENTCOM said both crew members were successfully rescued and remain in stable condition.
Before the latest exchange of attacks, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi warned Washington that Tehran’s armed forces would leave “no attack or threat unanswered.”
In a post on X, Araghchi wrote, “Leave our region if you want to be safe.”
The drone strike marks the first time during the current phase of the conflict that the IRGC has directly targeted the headquarters of the US Fifth Fleet.
Based in Manama, the US Fifth Fleet oversees American naval operations throughout the Middle East, including the Persian Gulf, Red Sea, and Arabian Sea.
The direct military confrontation has continued since late February 2026, when the United States and Israel launched coordinated strikes against Iran under Operation Epic Fury. (ANI)
