TEHRAN, Iran, June 11: Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad-Bagher Ghalibaf on Thursday issued a sharp warning following U.S. President Donald Trump’s remarks about potentially launching major military strikes against Iran, saying such actions would fundamentally alter the nature of the conflict and carry significant regional and global consequences.
In a post on X, Ghalibaf cautioned against what he described as “wrong strategies and impulsive decisions,” warning that further escalation could destabilize the region, disrupt energy markets, and prolong conflict.
“Wrong strategies and impulsive decisions will reset the entire board for the worse, explode energy infrastructure and markets, and create an endless quagmire that you will be stuck in for years. You will see a different Iran,” Ghalibaf said.
His comments came after Trump reiterated his warning that the United States would strike Iran “very hard” while diplomatic efforts continue to secure a peace agreement with Tehran. He indicated that military action could take place “tonight.”
In a post on Truth Social, Trump stated that the United States could eventually take control of Iran’s Kharg Island, the primary terminal for most of the country’s oil exports, along with other key oil infrastructure, in an effort to dominate Iran’s oil and gas markets.
Drawing a comparison with Venezuela, Trump claimed that U.S. involvement in that country’s oil sector had benefited both nations.
“The United States will be hitting Iran (whose Navy, Air Force, Radar, Anti-Aircraft, and all other forms of Defense, together with most of its offensive capability, are gone), VERY HARD TONIGHT,” Trump wrote.
“At some point in the not-too-distant future, we will be taking Kharg Island, and other oil infrastructure points, and assume total control of their oil and gas markets, much like we have with Venezuela, which is working out brilliantly for both Venezuela and the United States of America,” he added.
Trump had earlier told reporters at the White House that the United States would resume attacks on Iran, citing frustration over delays in finalizing an agreement with Tehran.
“We’re going to be attacking them, attacking them very hard,” Trump said, suggesting that Iran’s downing of a U.S. Apache helicopter justified renewed military action.
“Based on the helicopter, I guess we have the right to do that,” he said.
“We hit them hard yesterday. We’re going to hit them again hard today, in case you miss it, in case you don’t turn on your television set, and we’ll see what happens with the deal,” Trump added.
Meanwhile, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said American forces had completed additional “self-defense strikes” against multiple targets in Iran, including military surveillance systems, communications infrastructure, and air defense sites.
According to CENTCOM, U.S. Marine Corps, Air Force, and Navy units carried out precision strikes against targets deemed threats to American forces and international commercial shipping in the region. The command said the operations were a response to what it described as Iran’s continued and unjustified aggression.
Despite the escalating military exchanges, diplomatic efforts remain underway. CNN reported that U.S.-Iran talks are continuing following overnight negotiations.
Citing a diplomatic source familiar with the discussions, the network reported that negotiations remained on track despite the recent exchange of strikes between the two countries. (ANI)
