NEW DELHI, June 13 (ANI) — Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday departed from New Delhi for a multi-nation visit to France and Slovakia, during which he will participate in the G7 Summit, hold bilateral talks with French President Emmanuel Macron, and undertake a state visit to Slovakia — the first by an Indian prime minister since the country’s independence.
At the invitation of President Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister Modi will undertake an official visit to France from June 13-14 in Nice and from June 16-19 in Evian and Paris.
During the first leg of the visit, the prime minister will travel to Nice for a bilateral meeting with President Macron on Monday. The two leaders will review the full spectrum of the India-France bilateral relationship, which was elevated to a Special Global Strategic Partnership earlier this year.
In Nice, the two leaders will also jointly inaugurate the “Bharat Innovates” event, which will bring together leading startups and venture capital funds from India, France, and other countries. Being held during the India-France Year of Innovation, the event underscores the strong innovation partnership between the two nations, the Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement.
During the second leg of the visit, at the invitation of Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, Prime Minister Modi will pay a state visit to Slovakia from June 14-16. It will be the first visit by an Indian prime minister to Slovakia since the country gained independence in 1993, the Prime Minister’s Office said.
The visit follows President Droupadi Murmu’s state visit to Slovakia in April 2025 and Slovak President Peter Pellegrini’s visit to India for the AI Impact Summit in February 2026.
Prime Minister Modi will hold talks with Prime Minister Fico and explore new avenues of cooperation. He will also meet President Pellegrini. The visit is expected to reaffirm India’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with Slovakia across sectors, including trade, investment, and automobile and railway manufacturing.
During the third leg of the trip, the prime minister will participate in the G7 Summit in Evian, France, on June 16-17.
At the summit, he will exchange views with G7 leaders and invited partner countries and international organizations during sessions on forging new partnerships and rebuilding international solidarity, reviving balanced, shared, and sustainable economic growth, and ensuring the safe, rapid, and efficient rollout of artificial intelligence.
On the sidelines of the summit, the prime minister is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with several world leaders, according to the PMO.
During the final leg of the visit, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Paris on June 18 for further bilateral engagements and to attend the VivaTech Summit, Europe’s largest technology and startup event. He is also expected to address members of the Indian community in Paris.
The Prime Minister’s Office said the visit to Europe will further deepen India’s partnerships with France, Slovakia, and the G7.
The PMO noted that Prime Minister Modi’s presence at the G7 reflects India’s standing as a leading voice of the Global South and a key partner in addressing global challenges. His participation in both Bharat Innovates and the VivaTech Summit will showcase India as a global hub for innovation, digital transformation, and entrepreneurship and is expected to catalyze new partnerships between Indian, French, and European technology ecosystems.
The visit will also reaffirm India’s commitment to advancing its broader strategic partnership with the European Union.
