BEIRUT, June 20 — Fresh Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon have killed five people, including a Lebanese Army soldier and two minors, according to Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA).
The agency reported that a Lebanese Army soldier was killed in an airstrike targeting the Kfarremane roundabout.
It added that strikes also hit the centre of Sohmor, causing injuries, while another strike targeted Shibl in Qatrani in the Jezzine area.
In Barish, four members of a family — a father, mother, and two children — were killed in an airstrike, the NNA said.
The report also stated that a drone was seen flying at low altitude over Beirut’s southern suburbs, while the Hima Labaya area was struck by three additional airstrikes.
According to the NNA, earlier Israeli strikes had hit several towns, including Kfarreman, Habboush, Nabatieh al-Fawqa, Choukine, Zebdine, and Kfarjouz, while the city of Nabatieh also came under repeated raids.
Civil defence teams and paramedics from the Islamic Risala Scout Association and the Islamic Health Society continued search-and-rescue operations, as several people remained trapped under rubble.
The Israeli military had no immediate comment on the latest strikes, according to The Jerusalem Post.
The escalation comes amid heightened regional tensions following a recently signed US-Iran memorandum aimed at de-escalating hostilities in the wider region, which includes provisions related to Lebanon.
The agreement reportedly calls for an immediate cessation of military operations in Lebanon and outlines a framework for further negotiations within 60 days.
Meanwhile, Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir drew widespread condemnation after calling for intensified military action in Lebanon.
“For every tear of an Israeli mother, a thousand Lebanese mothers must weep. All of Lebanon must burn!” he wrote on X.
He further said Israel must prioritize security above all other considerations and criticized what he described as restrained responses.
“In the Middle East, you don’t win with measured responses and restraint — you need to go berserk. To obliterate. To crush the terror,” he said.
