NEW DELHI, June 25 (ANI) — Iranian Petroleum Minister Mohsen Paknejad arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday to participate in discussions on energy cooperation among BRICS member states and said Iran is prepared to strengthen economic relations with India.
Speaking about his visit, Paknejad highlighted the long-standing historical relationship between Iran and India and expressed Tehran’s willingness to expand cooperation in various economic sectors.
“As you know, we have had historical relations between Iran and India for a long time, for centuries. At the moment, I am here to take part in this BRICS Energy Ministers’ session. I will see what we discuss in these sessions, bilateral meetings, and the conference as a whole,” Paknejad said.
“We are now ready for all the relations we can have in economic fields with India, especially in India,” he added.
The Iranian minister said he would provide further details after discussions with Indian officials and other participants.
Referring to sanctions-related issues, Paknejad said Iran currently has a 60-day waiver and is proceeding based on understandings reached with the United States regarding sanctions.
During his visit, Paknejad is scheduled to meet Indian government officials and representatives from the energy sector. Expanding cooperation in the oil and gas industry, exploring investment opportunities, and discussing developments in global energy markets are expected to be key topics during the meetings.
Earlier, Ghadir Nezamipour, Deputy Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, held discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.
According to a post by the Iranian Embassy in India on X, Nezamipour met Modi on Tuesday evening following the conclusion of the Meeting of Heads of Security Agencies and National Security Advisers of BRICS member states. (ANI)
