DOHA, June 26 (ANI) — The mortal remains of four out of 12 Indian nationals who died in the Ras Laffan incident are being repatriated to India, the Embassy of India in Doha said in a statement.
The embassy added that it has been keeping the families of the deceased and relevant authorities informed throughout the process.
In a post on X, the embassy said, “The mortal remains of 4 out of 12 Indian nationals who unfortunately passed away in Ras Laffan incident are being repatriated to India today. We hope to repatriate other mortal remains also soon. Embassy has kept the families and authorities informed. We thank the Qatari authorities as well as the Indian community organizations for their support and coordination. Embassy has also been in touch with Indians who are injured in the accident.”
The Ras Laffan Industrial City incident resulted in the deaths of 12 Indian nationals among 13 fatalities in a major explosion at an LNG facility on Sunday night. Reports said the blast occurred at the Barzan local gas supply facility operated by QatarEnergy LNG and also left 66 people injured, including several Indians.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a phone call from Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who expressed condolences over the loss of Indian lives in the tragedy.
“We had a tragic accident in Qatar. We lost 12 Indian lives. Yesterday, the Prime Minister received a telephone call from His Highness the Emir of Qatar, who offered condolences on the loss of lives of Indian nationals in this tragic accident in the industrial city,” Jaiswal said.
Prime Minister Modi also expressed gratitude for the outreach from Qatar, stating on X that he appreciated the Emir’s condolences over the loss of Indian lives.
According to official sources, the Prime Minister said both leaders share the grief of the families who lost their loved ones and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured. (ANI)
