Cairo [Egypt], June 4 (ANI): India’s former Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Syed Akbaruddin, emphasized the effectiveness of India’s evolving counter-terrorism diplomacy following a recent multi-party delegation’s visit to four countries aimed at engaging with global civil society and strengthening the fight against terrorism.
Speaking at the conclusion of the delegation’s tour, Akbaruddin said, “The multi-party delegation’s goals were to reach out to the civil society in diverse countries. Having people from different parties in the delegation has had an impact because everybody is surprised that such a diverse country with so many differences, the people are united in countering terror.”
He added, “This has expanded the base of Indian diplomacy. As a country, we have come up with new terms of engagement in terms of trying to counter terrorism… Our policy of restraint is now being superseded, and we have a policy of resolve, and that is an effective deterrent. This is what we have noticed where we have engaged with people.”
Akbaruddin highlighted that shaping international narratives around terrorism is a long-term effort, with such diplomatic visits contributing to India’s soft power. The delegation’s efforts form part of a broader strategy to enhance India’s global engagement and promote cooperation against terrorism.
Led by Member of Parliament Supriya Sule, the delegation included representatives from various parties such as Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Vikramjeet Singh Sahney, Manish Tewari, Anurag Singh Thakur, Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu, Anand Sharma, and V Muraleedharan. Their mission was to brief international partners on India’s response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 civilians, and to reinforce India’s commitment to combat cross-border terrorism.
During the visit to Egypt, the delegation met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty in the New Administrative Capital. Abdelatty condemned the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, stating, “We cannot tolerate any attacks on civilians.”
Describing the India-Egypt relationship as “historic,” Abdelatty stressed the need to deepen economic ties to match the strong political bond between the two nations. He said, “Our position is very clear: we condemn, in the harshest words, the terrorist attack in Kashmir.”
The delegation’s outreach highlights India’s unified stance against terrorism and its pursuit of global cooperation to address this persistent threat through dialogue and partnership. (ANI)
