Oklahoma City (Oklahoma), June 23 (ANI): Police in Oklahoma City are investigating a shooting that occurred shortly after the Oklahoma City Thunder clinched their first-ever NBA Championship title. The incident took place Sunday night (local time) at Scissortail Park, where large crowds had gathered to celebrate the team’s historic win.
Oklahoma City Police Sergeant Rob Robertson told ABC News that shots were fired on the park’s west side just after the game concluded. Officers arrived at the scene and found one person suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim, whose identity has not been released, was transported to a hospital. Authorities said several potential suspects fled the area on foot.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Michigan, law enforcement in Wayne responded to a potentially deadly situation at a church on Sunday. An alleged active shooter was shot and killed by members of the church’s security team, effectively preventing what officials described as a possible mass shooting. According to ABC, at least two staff members fired at the suspect, fatally wounding him.
One of the security personnel was shot in the leg by the attacker but underwent successful surgery and is expected to recover, police said.
These incidents come amid heightened security alerts across the United States following Operation Midnight Hammer, in which U.S. forces carried out precision airstrikes on three major Iranian nuclear facilities over the weekend. The strikes, ordered by President Donald Trump, targeted sites in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.
In the wake of the strikes, U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem issued a statement warning of increased risks to domestic safety. “It is our duty to keep the nation safe and informed, especially during times of conflict. The ongoing Israel-Iran conflict brings the possibility of increased threat to the homeland in the form of possible cyberattacks, acts of violence, and antisemitic hate crime,” she said.
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has issued a nationwide alert warning of likely “low-level cyberattacks” against U.S. targets and a heightened risk of domestic extremist violence should Iranian leadership call for retaliation.
Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activity as security is ramped up across major U.S. cities and venues. (ANI)
