
Guwahati (Assam) [India], June 24 (ANI): Following a recent landslide that disrupted train services in the Lumding-Badarpur hill section, authorities from the Railways and the Assam government are working intensively to restore connectivity. A high-level emergency meeting was convened to assess the situation and develop immediate solutions. Senior officials from Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), the Assam State Government, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), and other relevant agencies participated in the review.
Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Northeast Frontier Railway, stated that train operations were suspended to ensure passenger safety and protect railway assets. He confirmed that NFR teams are working around the clock, using heavy machinery and manpower to remove debris and restore the affected track. “Continuous joint monitoring and coordinated efforts are underway. We expect train services to resume as soon as it is safe to do so,” Sharma said.
He further noted that several trains have been cancelled or partially cancelled until restoration is complete. He urged passengers to remain updated through official railway communication channels for the latest information on train schedules and service restoration.
Among the cancelled trains are Train No. 15611 (Rangiya – Silchar) Express, Train No. 15612 (Silchar – Rangiya) Express, and Train No. 15615 (Guwahati – Silchar) Express, all commencing journey on June 24, 2025. Train No. 15616 (Silchar – Guwahati) Express, Train No. 15888/15887 (Guwahati – Badarpur – Guwahati) Tourist Express, and Train No. 22450 (New Delhi – Guwahati) PSK Express, all commencing journey on June 25, 2025. Train No. 12503 (SMVT Bengaluru – Agartala) Humsafar Express, commencing journey on June 27, 2025, has also been cancelled.
Partially cancelled trains include Train No. 15625 (Deoghar – Agartala) Express, which began its journey on June 23, 2025, and has been short-terminated at Lumding and will remain cancelled between Lumding and Agartala. Train No. 13173 (Sealdah – Sabroom) Kanchanjunga Express, commencing on June 24, 2025, will terminate at Lumding and remain cancelled beyond that point. Train No. 12516 (Silchar – Coimbatore) Express, commencing on June 24, 2025, will originate from Guwahati and remain cancelled between Silchar and Guwahati. Train No. 13176 (Silchar – Sealdah) Kanchanjunga Express, commencing June 25, 2025, will start from Lumding and remain cancelled between Silchar and Lumding. Train No. 12502 (Agartala – Kolkata) Garib Rath Express, also commencing June 25, 2025, will originate from Guwahati and remain cancelled between Agartala and Guwahati.
Sharma further shared that approximately 50,000 cubic meters of debris, including muck and stones, had obstructed the railway retaining wall. Of this, an estimated 30,000 cubic meters must be cleared before track restoration can begin. He confirmed that senior railway officials from Lumding Division and NFR Headquarters are currently stationed at the site to oversee operations and ensure rapid progress.
“The railway administration deeply regrets the inconvenience caused to passengers due to these unavoidable disruptions. We are making every effort, on a war footing, to restore operations while maintaining safety standards,” Sharma said.
