Tel Aviv [Israel], June 30 (ANI/TPS): Israeli authorities have revealed that several Israeli citizens were arrested earlier this month on suspicion of acting on behalf of Iranian intelligence to carry out missions targeting Israeli civilians and national security, including a foiled assassination plot.
The arrests were made in two separate operations led by the Israel Police and coordinated by the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet).
In one case, 33-year-old Mark Morgaine, a resident of the Jordan Valley, was arrested on June 15. Authorities allege Morgaine maintained contact with Iranian intelligence and agreed to carry out missions on their behalf, including retrieving a grenade buried at a prearranged site—believed to be intended for use against civilians. He also reportedly sent his Iranian handler a video of a missile interception during the recent 12-day war.
In a separate case, two young residents of Tiberias—Yoni Segal, 18, and Nahorai Omri Mizrahi, 20—were arrested overnight between June 14 and 15. According to investigators, the two conducted surveillance on various public locations, including malls in Tel Aviv, Haifa, and Tiberias, as well as Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv. They allegedly documented the number of security personnel, layout of stores, and sent real-time location updates to their Iranian contact.
Authorities further suspect that Segal and Mizrahi were offered hundreds of thousands of shekels in exchange for participating in an assassination plot. The plan involved traveling abroad for training before receiving the name of a targeted individual. Fortunately, the operation was disrupted before it could proceed.
On Monday, the Petah Tikva Magistrate’s Court extended the detention of all three suspects until Thursday, as investigations continue. (ANI/TPS)
