Gaza City [Gaza], July 15 (ANI/WAM): The UAE’s Operation Chivalrous Knight 3 has launched the largest desalinated water supply project to date for southern Gaza, as part of its ongoing emergency response to the worsening water crisis in the besieged Strip.
In a press conference at the Coastal Municipalities Water Utility (CMWU) headquarters in Deir al-Balah, officials announced the construction of a 6.7-kilometre, 315mm water transmission line. The pipeline will deliver desalinated water from the UAE-built plant on the Egyptian side of the border to displacement areas between the Khan Younis and Rafah governorates.
Once operational, the project is expected to supply about 15 litres of safe drinking water per person daily, directly benefiting approximately 600,000 residents in southern Gaza, where more than 80 percent of the water infrastructure has been destroyed amid the ongoing conflict.
Sharif Al-Nayrab, media director for Operation Chivalrous Knight 3 in Gaza, underscored the humanitarian significance of the initiative. “This new water pipeline is more than a rapid response to the urgent thirst crisis in Gaza; it is a continuation of the UAE’s unwavering commitment to supporting the Palestinian people, particularly in the face of the humanitarian disaster caused by war,” he said.
He highlighted the UAE’s longstanding leadership in Gaza’s relief efforts, citing prior initiatives such as the construction of desalination stations, delivery of water tankers, drilling of wells, and maintenance of existing networks.
Omar Shatat, Deputy Director-General of the CMWU for Technical Affairs, expressed deep gratitude to the UAE, noting that its funding and support have been pivotal in keeping essential services functioning under extremely challenging conditions.
Civil society representative Khalil Abu Shammala also commended the UAE for its steadfast humanitarian role. He stressed that projects like this not only improve access to safe water but also bolster the resilience of Gaza’s population in the face of persistent crises.
The new pipeline marks another milestone in Operation Chivalrous Knight 3’s broader efforts to rehabilitate critical infrastructure in Gaza and strengthen the capacity of local communities to endure the ongoing humanitarian emergency.
