Washington DC [US], July 30 (ANI): US President Donald Trump has claimed that he severed ties with disgraced financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein after Epstein “stole” young female workers from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort, according to Al Jazeera.
Speaking to reporters on his way back from a trip to Scotland on Tuesday (local time), Trump alleged that one of the workers involved was the late Virginia Giuffre, one of Epstein’s most prominent accusers.
“People were taken out of the [Mar-a-Lago] spa, hired by him. In other words, gone,” Trump said. “When I heard about it, I told him, I said, ‘Listen, we don’t want you taking our people.’ And then, not too long after that, he did it again. And I said, ‘Out of here,'” Al Jazeera reported.
Trump, who maintained a close relationship with Epstein for years, has become increasingly defensive amid growing scrutiny over his administration’s refusal to release government records containing information about Epstein’s abuses.
Officials, including Attorney General Pam Bondi, have argued that releasing more documents could risk exposing victim identities and distributing illegal material collected as evidence. However, Bondi’s public remarks have only intensified the controversy. In a February interview with Fox News, Bondi said Epstein’s alleged client list was “sitting on my desk right now,” according to Al Jazeera.
The White House last week stated that Trump barred Epstein from Mar-a-Lago “for being a creep,” as per CNN. Trump himself said Tuesday that both reasons—the theft of staff and Epstein’s behavior—were “sort of a little bit of the same thing.”
However, reports from 2019 suggest that their falling out may have also involved a separate issue: the two wealthy real estate figures reportedly clashed while competing for the same Palm Beach property, CNN noted.
The subject remains a sensitive one. After Epstein’s arrest in 2019, Trump declined to elaborate on the reasons behind their estrangement, telling reporters, “The reason doesn’t make any difference, frankly,” CNN reported.
