
New Delhi [India], August 5 (ANI): The Government of India has appointed Sandeep Arya, a 1994-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, as the next Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Bhutan, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Tuesday.
Arya is currently serving as India’s Ambassador to Vietnam and is expected to assume his new role in Bhutan shortly.
“Sandeep Arya (IFS:1994), presently Ambassador to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Kingdom of Bhutan. He is expected to take up the assignment shortly,” the MEA stated.
Arya assumed charge as India’s Ambassador to Vietnam in October 2022. Prior to that, he held key roles within the MEA, including as Additional Secretary (Disarmament & International Security Affairs) and Joint Secretary (Europe West/AD) between 2019 and 2022.
He also served as the Indian High Commissioner to Tanzania and India’s Representative to the East African Community from 2015 to 2019. Between 1994 and 2015, Arya held various diplomatic assignments at Indian missions in the Netherlands, Russia, and Ukraine, as well as in different divisions at MEA headquarters in New Delhi.
Born in June 1971 in Kashipur, India, Sandeep Arya holds a Bachelor of Technology degree in Mechanical Engineering, a Master of Technology in Nuclear Engineering, a Master of Arts in Economics, and a Master of Business Administration.
He is known for his interest in history, international relations, and global affairs, and enjoys music and yoga. He is fluent in Hindi, English, and Russian.
India and Bhutan share a unique and time-tested partnership, characterized by close diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties. Arya’s appointment is expected to further strengthen these relations and enhance cooperation between the two neighboring countries. (ANI)
