
Kannur (Kerala) [India], August 23 (ANI): A 40-year-old man who set a woman on fire in the Kuttiyattur area of Kannur district has died from burn injuries while undergoing treatment at Pariyaram Medical College Hospital in Valapattanam, police said Saturday.
The accused, identified as Jijesh (40), had allegedly poured petrol on a woman, Praveena (39), and set her on fire on Wednesday. He also sustained severe burns during the act. Both were admitted to the hospital, but Praveena succumbed to her injuries the next day, on Thursday.
According to police, a murder case was to be registered against Jijesh for the attack. The complaint stated that Jijesh arrived at Praveena’s rented house around 2 p.m. on August 20 and asked for water. Later, while she was engaged in household chores in the backyard, he attacked her.
Neighbors rushed to the spot after hearing her cries and took both the victim and the accused to the hospital. Jijesh had been booked under Section 332 (house trespass to commit an offense) and Section 109 (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
In a separate incident earlier this year, in April, a 32-year-old woman named Ramitha died in Kasaragod after being set on fire by a man who claimed to be taking revenge. According to police, Ramitha had complained to her building owner about the accused causing trouble after drinking. Both were shop owners in the area. The accused allegedly entered her shop, poured a bottle of thinner on her, and set her ablaze, police said. (ANI)
