Sanaa [Yemen], August 31 (ANI): Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived in Tianjin by air on Sunday morning to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit, Global Times reported.
The report noted that Turkey is a dialogue partner of the SCO. As major developing countries and members of the Global South, China and Turkey share broad consensus on pursuing national development and revitalization, upholding established international norms, and other key issues, Global Times reported. China has become Turkey’s second-largest trading partner and the fastest-growing source of international tourists to the country, according to a CCTV report.
With the SCO Summit set to open in Tianjin on Sunday, additional foreign leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, have also arrived in China for the event, Global Times reported.
The 2025 SCO Summit has on its agenda issues such as addressing security challenges more effectively and enhancing financial mechanisms, as member states seek to strengthen unity, support multilateralism, and better represent Global South nations, China Daily reported, citing observers.
The summit, scheduled for Sunday and Monday in Tianjin, will feature the participation of more than 20 foreign leaders and 10 heads of international organizations. According to China Daily, the Chinese president will chair the 25th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO and the “SCO Plus” Meeting, delivering keynote speeches.
The 2025 Summit marks the fifth time China has hosted an SCO summit and will be the largest gathering since the organization’s founding. Citing an article by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi in People’s Daily on Saturday, the report noted that the SCO “has held 110 important events” since China assumed the rotating presidency in July last year.
