
New Delhi [India], September 16 (ANI): India and Venezuela have held talks to explore collaboration in Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) and Artificial Intelligence (AI), with a focus on transformative applications in payments, citizen services, agriculture, health, and education, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Tuesday.
In a post on X, the MEA stated that Secretary (East) P. Kumaran met Venezuela’s Vice Minister for Development of Information and Communications Technology, Raul Hernandez, to discuss potential cooperation in these areas. “Secretary (East) P Kumaran met Mr Raul Hernandez, Vice-Minister for Development of Information and Communications Technology, Venezuela. Discussions focused on cooperation in the areas of Digital Public Infrastructure and AI, including in the fields of payments, citizen services, agriculture, health and education,” the MEA noted.
According to the ministry, India and Venezuela have traditionally maintained cordial relations and share similar views on major international, political, and economic issues. In addition to strengthening bilateral ties, both countries cooperate in multilateral forums.
The two nations marked the 64th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2023. Resident embassies have been operating in Caracas and New Delhi for more than four decades, and Venezuela has emerged as one of India’s key oil suppliers.
Earlier this year, in February, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and the Venezuelan Ministry of Science and Technology signed an MoU on cooperation to share successful digital solutions implemented at population scale for digital transformation.
India’s main exports to Venezuela include mineral fuels and oils, pharmaceutical products, cotton, nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery, electrical equipment, sound and television recorders and reproducers, apparel, and miscellaneous chemical products.
Venezuela’s primary exports to India consist of mineral fuels and oils, bituminous substances, mineral waxes, iron and steel, aluminum, edible vegetables and tubers, copper, lead, zinc, wood and wood products, electrical machinery and equipment, raw hides and leather, boilers, machinery, edible fruits and nuts, plastics, organic chemicals, miscellaneous chemical products, and articles of iron or steel.
