New York [US], September 24 (ANI): On the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, US President Donald Trump announced his endorsement of Argentine President Javier Milei for the upcoming presidential elections scheduled for October 26.
In a post on X, the White House stated, “US President Donald Trump with Argentinian President Javier Milei: He’s done a fantastic job!” Speaking to reporters, Trump described Milei as his “friend” and praised his leadership, saying, “He’s done a fantastic job and I’m doing something I don’t often do — I’m giving a full endorsement to him. We just endorsed him for president.”
Trump expressed confidence in Milei’s re-election prospects and encouraged Argentine voters to support him. “As you know, he has a race coming up and I’m sure he’s going to do well. To the people of Argentina, we’re backing him 100%. He, like us, inherited a mess and what he’s done to fix it is good. He is working for their country so they can get good debt relief and all of the things that you need to make Argentina great again.”
When asked whether the US would assist Argentina financially, Trump said the US would help but did not provide specifics. “We’re going to help them. I don’t think they need a bailout. He’s done a fantastic job. If you look at where they were when he first ran for office and where they are now, it’s pretty amazing.”
Trump expressed optimism about Milei’s chances, stating, “It’s a great place. It’s a truly beautiful country and he’s going to be very successful in the election. To complete the job, he needs the next term and he’s going to get it based on everything I can see. He has our backing. We’re doing incredibly well as a country, including the stock market, which is setting new records virtually every day. We are very much a fan of the job that he’s done.”
This public endorsement marks a rare and direct US presidential intervention in the electoral politics of another sovereign nation and could influence Argentina’s political landscape significantly ahead of the upcoming polls. (ANI)
