New Delhi [India], September 24 (ANI): German Ambassador to India Philipp Ackermann on Wednesday extended a warm invitation to Indian professionals, underlining Germany’s stable migration policies and abundant opportunities in IT, management, science, and technology.
Speaking in New Delhi, Ackermann emphasised that Germany offers a reliable migration framework, in contrast to recent changes in the US. “We believe in hard work and giving the best jobs to the best people. Our migration policy works a bit like a German car — reliable, modern, predictable. It will go in a straight line with no zigzags. Highly skilled Indians are welcome in Germany,” he said.
Ackermann noted that Indians in Germany are among the top earners, stating, “The average Indian working in Germany earns more than the average German. And that’s good news, because a high salary means Indians are contributing significantly to our society and welfare.” He encouraged professionals to explore opportunities in Germany, describing the country as a stable and attractive destination for talent.
The ambassador’s remarks come amid tensions over the US H-1B visa program. A recent move by US President Donald Trump to increase the H-1B visa fee to USD 100,000 has heightened concerns in India, with Systematix Research reporting that it could significantly impact India’s USD 190 billion services export industry. The report described the change as an escalation of US protectionism, targeting India’s IT sector.
The White House defended the decision, arguing that the H-1B visa program has suppressed wages and displaced American workers, citing data showing that foreign STEM employment in the US more than doubled between 2000 and 2019 while domestic STEM employment grew more slowly.
Against this backdrop, Germany is positioning itself as an alternative destination for skilled Indian professionals, offering stability and growth opportunities in high-demand sectors. (ANI)
