New Delhi [India], September 24 (ANI): Morocco’s Secretary of State to the Ministry of Industry, Omar Hejira, underscored the importance of strengthening India-Morocco ties during his visit to Delhi, highlighting Morocco’s strategic location and untapped potential for deeper economic cooperation.
Speaking to ANI, Hejira said, “My visit to India is important to improve the relation between India and Morocco,” pointing to the growing scope for bilateral partnerships. He stressed Morocco’s strategic position, noting its connections with African and European markets, and its free trade agreements with the US, African nations, and Arab countries.
Accompanied by a strong delegation, Hejira extended an open invitation for Indian delegations to visit Morocco and explore opportunities for collaboration.
Building on this, Morocco’s Ambassador to India, Mohamed Maliki, said Morocco is actively working to balance trade with India and expand cooperation across sectors. “We are working on the trade deficit. Of course, it’s in the best interests of Morocco, but there are many ways of balancing this trade. It will happen very soon,” Maliki remarked.
The Ambassador emphasised Morocco’s contribution to India’s food security through fertiliser supplies, describing it as “quite important” for India’s stability. He added that both countries share a commitment to open economies, rejecting protectionism in favour of market-driven cooperation.
Linking to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Voice of the South” initiative, Maliki said, “We should see it as an opportunity for us to explore stronger partnerships between developing countries.” He highlighted the Arab world’s growing economic potential and described India as “a significant, reliable partner with a robust economy,” stressing the need for more trade and investment exchanges.
On the strategic front, Maliki noted recent defence cooperation, including India’s inauguration of Morocco’s first defence facility outside India, as a testament to the deepening trust and partnership between the two nations.
Looking ahead, he stressed that many opportunities remain untapped, saying, “There are so many opportunities that have not been exploited, and we need to work together to realise them.”
This visit signals Morocco’s intent to strengthen ties with India across trade, defence, technology, and strategic cooperation, while leveraging its position as a gateway to Africa and Europe. (ANI)
