Washington DC [US], October 6 (ANI): US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Sunday (local time) lauded the coalition of Arab nations brought together by US President Donald Trump for ending the Gaza conflict. Rubio said that this was not a political coalition but one dealing with terrorists.
In a post on X, he said, “We’re not dealing with a political movement, we’re dealing with killers, savages, and terrorists. But what gives us hope is the coalition US President Donald Trump built that is pushing in the same direction with us to get the hostages released and the conflict resolved.”
US President Donald Trump said on Sunday (local time) that negotiations between Hamas and “countries from all over the world” for the release of hostages and to end the war in Gaza have “been very successful, and proceeding rapidly.”
“There have been very positive discussions with Hamas, and countries from all over the world (Arab, Muslim, and everyone else) this weekend, to release the hostages, end the war in Gaza but, more importantly, finally have long sought PEACE in the Middle East,” he wrote on Truth Social.
He said technical teams will meet Monday in Egypt to work through and clarify final details. “I am told that the first phase should be completed this week, and I am asking everyone to MOVE FAST. I will continue to monitor this centuries old ‘conflict,'” he wrote.
“TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE OR, MASSIVE BLOODSHED WILL FOLLOW — SOMETHING THAT NOBODY WANTS TO SEE!”
Israel will negotiate “with full commitment and determination” to secure the release of all of the hostages, the country’s coordinator for hostage affairs told family members Sunday evening, as per CNN.
Trump spoke at a gathering of service members and top military brass celebrating the US Navy’s 250th anniversary. There, he made a reference to his efforts to broker a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, saying he’s working on solving global conflicts, including “one that’s taken 3,000 years. And we’re pretty close, but I don’t want to talk about it until it’s done,” as per CNN.
“We don’t want to send you into battle unless it’s necessary, right? We’re putting out a lot of fires,” the president added, addressing the assembled sailors, CNN reported. (ANI)
UK: Jews gather to mark 2 years of Hamas attack on Israel
London [UK], October 6 (ANI): British Jews gathered on Sunday to mark two years since the October 7, 2023, Hamas massacres in southern Israel with anger, sadness, and defiance in ceremonies heightened by the shock of the deadly terror attack on a synagogue over the Yom Kippur holiday, The Times of Israel reported.
Participants lamented that the wave of antisemitism unleashed after the Hamas attack and subsequent war in Gaza had been left unchecked in the UK, where anti-Israel and antisemitic protests have become regular events.
In Manchester, where a knifeman assaulted congregants on Thursday at the Heaton Park Synagogue in an attack that left two dead and four seriously injured, thousands gathered under the banner, “We are not Jews with trembling knees.”
In London, Keith Black, chairman of the Jewish Leadership Council, told a crowd of some 3,000 gathered at Trafalgar Square that “antisemitism in this country is out of control,” The Times of Israel reported.
“Our streets have been filled with protesters screaming Jew hatred, our students have faced relentless waves of abuse on campus,” Black said.
Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis led prayers for the release of the remaining hostages and in memory of those killed in the attack. Candles were lit in memory of the different communities that were attacked on October 7, and the names of British citizens killed in the attack were read, The Times of Israel reported.
Hamas militants killed 1,200 people in Israel on October 7, 2023, and took more than 250 hostages in a savage attack. It triggered a brutal retaliation from Israel, which Gaza’s health ministry says has killed more than 65,000 people, most of them women and children.
At present, Israel and Hamas are preparing for indirect negotiations in Egypt amid hopes for a possible agreement on ending the Gaza war based on Donald Trump’s 20-point ceasefire plan, Al Jazeera reported.
Palestinian group Hamas said on Sunday that its delegation, headed by Khalil al-Hayya, had arrived in Sharm el-Sheikh and would begin negotiations on Monday “on the mechanisms for a ceasefire, the withdrawal of [Israeli] occupation forces, and a prisoner exchange,” as per Al Jazeera. (ANI)
