New York City [US], November 16 (ANI): New York business tycoon Sant Singh Chatwal, Padma Bhushan award recipient, joined Onkar Singh, Coordinator of ‘Let’s Share a Meal,’ and hundreds of volunteers to distribute thousands of meals at the Times Square Langar (Free Food) event, honoring the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
The event celebrated the timeless principle of “Vand Chhakna,” teaching the importance of sharing with others. This universal message lies at the heart of Langar, the Sikh tradition of serving free meals to all, regardless of background, faith, or status. The initiative aimed to spread the values of oneness, equality, and compassion, inspiring people of all cultures to serve and share with love. Families, interfaith organizations, and visitors from around the world were invited to participate in the spirit of unity and service.
On Saturday, the Times Square Langar embodied Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s teachings, emphasizing shared values of humanity, kindness, and collective well-being. Events like this, along with organizations such as Let’s Share a Meal, help bridge gaps by offering nourishment, dignity, and hope to those in need.
Guru Nanak Dev Jayanti, also known as Gurpurab, was recently celebrated on November 5 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, founder of Sikhism and the first of the ten Sikh Gurus. His birth anniversary is observed globally with spiritual fervor, including kirtan, processions, and acts of service, reflecting his message of equality, humility, and devotion to God. (ANI)
