New Delhi [India], November 19 (ANI): Neeraj Agrawal has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Wednesday. Agrawal, a 2009-batch officer, is currently posted in the Ministry and is expected to take up his new assignment shortly.
India and Mauritania share cordial and friendly relations, with India opening its Embassy in Nouakchott in June 2021. The MEA highlighted that India has provided substantial developmental, human resource, and infrastructural support to Mauritania, including a Line of Credit (LOC) of USD 21.8 million for agro-industrial and drinking water projects.
Mauritania looks forward to strengthening its relationship with India across multiple sectors, including port development, oil exploration, mining, power, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, engineering, and education. The country is actively developing its port city of Nouadhibou and is inviting international investors with attractive incentives.
India’s primary exports to Mauritania include cereals, pharmaceuticals, plastics, cotton, ceramics, iron and steel products, boilers, mechanical appliances, electrical and chemical products, and non-railway vehicles. Mauritania exports iron, steel, copper, aluminum, and electrical machinery to India. Indian companies are engaged in mining, power, vehicles, fishing, and infrastructure projects in Mauritania, with Indian-origin commodities widely available in local markets.
