Dhaka [Bangladesh], December 24 (ANI): A man was killed in Dhaka on Wednesday evening after a crude bomb hurled from a flyover exploded beneath it, BD News reported, citing police officials.
The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. under the flyover in front of the gate of the Muktijoddha Central Command Council. The location is an alley housing two buildings belonging to the AG Church and AG Church School, according to BD News.
Ibne Mizan, Deputy Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Tejgaon Division, confirmed the fatality and said the victim was between 20 and 22 years old.
“We learned that a crude bomb was hurled from the top of the flyover and struck the youth on his head,” the officer said. “He died on the spot.”
Police said the victim, identified only as Siam, worked at a decorator shop in Moghbazar, BD News reported.
Responsibility for the attack was not immediately known, Xinhua reported. The incident comes amid widespread unrest across Bangladesh.
Earlier this week, Inqilab Moncho held a protest rally in Dhaka over the killing of its leader, Osman Hadi, at Shahbagh in the capital.
The platform had on Monday concluded a protest at the Central Shaheed Minar after issuing a 24-hour ultimatum to the government, demanding justice for those responsible for Hadi’s killing. It also announced plans to hold a “Shaheedi oath” ceremony at Shahbagh at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, according to Member Secretary Abdullah Al Jaber.
Inqilab Moncho has demanded that the killers of its convenor be brought to justice before Bangladesh’s 13th national election and the proposed referendum. According to BDNews24, Al Jaber said at a media briefing on Monday that the group would continue street protests until justice is delivered.
“You can’t get away without informing the people who the murderer of Hadi was by just holding an election,” he was quoted as saying. “Justice for Hadi must be ensured before the election. Otherwise, no election will take place.” (ANI)
