KYIV [Ukraine], December 30 (ANI): Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Tuesday presented housing certificates to members of Ukraine’s Security and Defense Forces who have been conferred the title of Hero of Ukraine, as well as to the families of fallen heroes, in a gesture of gratitude for their service to the nation.
In a post on X, Zelenskyy said, “Ukraine is a state forged by the courage of its people. The Ukrainian nation survived and preserved its strong identity in an extremely difficult environment. Many would not have endured it, but Ukrainians did. They managed to preserve themselves, to pass through all the trials of history, and to drive foreign intruders out of the Ukrainian home. We will certainly endure now as well. We will defend our independence. We will defend our sovereignty. We will defend our land, our right to live, and our right to choose for ourselves how to live.”
He added that the Ukrainian home would always remain on the political map of the world and stressed the importance of ensuring that every national hero has a home of their own. “It is critically important that in our shared home, every Ukrainian hero has a home of their own. I presented housing certificates to the warriors of Ukraine’s Security and Defense Forces who have been conferred the title Hero of Ukraine, as well as to the families of fallen heroes. This is the very least the state can do to say thank you,” he said.
Zelenskyy further expressed gratitude to the recipients and their families, saying they had chosen Ukraine and bound their destinies to the country. “Glory to you. Glory to Ukraine,” he added.
Earlier, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov claimed that Kyiv had carried out a drone attack on President Vladimir Putin’s state residence in the Novgorod region overnight on December 29, deploying 91 unmanned aerial vehicles, according to TASS. Lavrov said all the drones were intercepted and destroyed, with no casualties or property damage reported.
He also warned that Moscow would respond to the alleged attack, adding that the timing and targets of Russia’s retaliatory measures had already been determined. Despite the incident, Lavrov said Russia would not withdraw from ongoing negotiations to resolve the Ukraine conflict, though the situation would prompt a review of Moscow’s negotiating stance.
Ukrainian President Zelenskyy has rejected Lavrov’s claims, calling them “fabrications” and saying Ukraine would not take steps to undermine diplomacy. In a separate post on X, Zelenskyy said the alleged attack narrative was intended to justify further strikes against Ukraine and undermine peace efforts.
The developments come after US President Donald Trump hosted Zelenskyy at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida on Sunday as part of efforts to continue peace talks aimed at ending the four-year-long war.
